Very few people correctly identified
last week’s mystery photo. In a
random drawing, Michelle Stevens
of Lewiston was selected as the
winner of a $10 Dunkin’ Donuts
gift card. Stevens grew up near
Bates College and walked through
the campus many times as a child.
“I have been interested in art
since I was young, and stopped
and admired the artwork when I
first noticed it in front of Olin Arts
Center at Bates.” The sculpture,
titled “What’s Going On,” was
created by renowned artist Joel
Perlman in 1984. According to the
International Sculpture Center
“Perlman has been creating
complex sculptures out of steel,
bronze and aluminum since the
early 1970s. While minimalism
was the predominant style of
his genration, Perlman chose to
push his forms into ever-more
complicated, gravity-defying
configurations.”
