A retired Lewiston firefighter, he did not want to be identified, waves to passing motorists as they beep at him while crossing the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Lewiston Wednesday morning. He flew this 4th Marine Division Flag for about an hour in honor of his uncle, a WWII veteran who received the Purple Heart after being wounded while fighting at Iwo Jima. He replaced it with an American Flag shortly after. Several years ago, he had erected several others along the sides of the bridge to inspire patriotism and honor members of the military, but they were eventually taken down after falling into disrepair after he was not able to tend to them following complications from surgery. That kept the now 77 year old from climbing the 50 foot high trees, but he is back in shape again, and used a metal pole this time instead of wood in hopes of it lasting longer. On top of the pole is a firefighters ax.

McKenzie Lagerson, 9, of Greene, hurdles a safety cone in the middle of Gracelawn Road in Auburn Sunday morning. About 300 runners and walkers took part in the 7th Annual Bob Boucher Memorial 5K Run/Walk at Saint Dominic Academy. About 300 men, women and children took part in the event that event that raises money to benefit the school in the form of scholarship money, institutional improvements and the replacement of athletic uniforms.
