Susan Clayton of Lewiston identified the old walking bridge across the canal on Oxford Street in Lewiston that she,and thousands of others,once crossed to get to and from work at the mills and factories along the river. Fifty years ago,when she was 16, she worked as an inspector on the third floor of Belmore Shoe, then located in the building directly across from the bridge.The building has most recently housed Maine Line Industries and PAMCOShoe Manufacturing.
