Anita McHenry, right, Maliyah Powell, second from right, and other students and teachers from the Lewiton Middle School Alternative Education Program paint the new ArtVan behind the school Thursday morning. After nearly 8 years, the ArtVan 501c3 charitable program needed a new van. With donations from businesses and foundations they bought a new one, but wanted to keep the same identity as the old one. Founder and Ex Director, Jamie Silvestri asked her friend, LMS Alternative Ed instructor, Dan Sansoucy, if he and his students would help paint the new van. ArtVan is a mobile arts therapy organization whose mission is to provide a creative and collaborative environment to encourage youth who have little or no arts access to fully express their imaginations, relationships and experiences within themselves, among their peers and across our communities. For more information on ArtVan, visit their website at: www.artvanprogram.org
