The power was lost at Black Mountain of Maine Wednesday morning just as the course was being inspected by competitors at the Mouintain Valley Conference Alpine Ski Championships. While race officials scrambled to see what the problem was and looked for a solution, Bristol Quimby, front, and her teammates took to sliding down a hill by the base lodge. With a small field of racers, mountain and race officials decided to load them onto the back of a grooming machine and drive them to the top. It was a long day but they managed to get in all 8 races.
