Stan Carmichael of Lewiston, looks out at the 400 flags at Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston Sunday morning. A veteran of three tours of duty in Vietnam, Carmichael said, "I was one of the lucky ones that came back. It's really hard standing here." He bought a flag in honor of his father, a WWII veteran who was in the Battle of the Bulge. The display of 400 flags, described as a "Field of Honor", is a fundraiser for the Auburn Exchange Club. The civic group hopes to raise money by selling all of the 400 flags at $40 each. Proceeds will fund its charity work.
